THE FEAST final pages

The pages for pitch are finally finished from my side..Lettering remains. It has taken insane amount of time to finish this pitch as i kept working on odd jobs for money. Finishing these pages makes me realise even more that this is the thing i want to do with my time...now only one thing remains to be figured out...how to make money while i do this:) in time that shall be sorted out too..

FEAST and other visions of malevolence (work in progress)

WORK IN PROGRESS
I along with couple of my friends are trying to put this project together. Feast and other visions..are graphic adaptations of short stories by acclaimed marathi writer Mr.Ratnakar Matkari..The project as of now has 7 stories which we will be making into a graphic novel of 200 pages approx...These 4 pages are part of the pitch we are trying to put together..One more pass of greys is remainging then these will be finished. I hope you guys like these.

HELL HOUSE character explorations

This was a 93 page graphic novel project for Cirque studio...I am not working ont he project due to some financial issues but i did some character explorations for the same. I wanted to go extremely graphic on compositions. could have added a lot of mood to the entire story which was very much a teen horror story. hope you guys like it.

GQ assignment 4

This is done for Sex talk in GQ for the month of september. The article highlighted the importance of setting, mood and music while having sex. It talked about various songs that can be tried for various moods and how songs playing in background can affect your partner. few roughs as usual..the one that i wished would go for print and finally the one that went for print. hope you guys like it

GQ assignment 3

Third assignment for GQ. My first time working on a feature that is an article spreading across 6 pages...feature was about plastic surgery and idea was given from the clients side to work on realistic drawing style like leonardo's. Since i m so unable to draw realistic i suggested to go a bit modern and get bit machine/digital elements in it...The whole assignment went back and forth many times as right from beginning the clients had a more realistic feel of the whole thing wehre as i was aiming for a more 2d approch...any way not the best of my assignment..could have been better.

GQ Mag assignment 2

for my second assignment i get to work on the sex column. The article talks about various sex fetish people may have. Stuff written in were too funny or too gross. Pooping while having sex..One mans poop is another's chocolate...YUCKKKKKKkkk..
various stuff that would not be suitable for visual representation...there was some mention of wife wanting her hubby to dress up as teddy bear(this can be real considering how much chicks love teddie they might have their fantasies around it)...so i felt that exploring S&M would be a good idea as one mans pain is anothers pleasure...mixing it with weird clothing...The roughs shown here are gradual progression and improvisation of the same idea...Had loved the first rough but i covered her face there so the editor went for the third rough where we can see her face...The idea was to explore S&M concept in indian context...so its a wedding night and the bride and bridegroom...finally the chudies and mangalsutra did not look cool so had to remove it...but i loved the tought..may be some other time will explore the concept further.

Audio Visual Presentation For Unilever India

This was a little off the track kind of concept presented to corporate client. The Creatives from JWT wanted to make the AV based on superhero theme. Usually the Client would make an AV using footage and images from various place. This time they wanted to do something very different. So this had to done in a way where Unilever will buy into the idea.

These were the roughs done before starting onto the final to show the agency and client the look and feel we were trying to nail for the AV.



These are the final images used in the AV. Minimal animation was done on few images.
This assignment was completed in a weeks time starting from client approval on roughs to delivering the final product.

Storyboard for Bates

This was a quick assignment that happened over two days as the ad agency had to present it to the client in hurry. Good Fun. Very short time so i had figure out techniques that will still make the overall board work visually. I love the slow mo car moving shots with the citylights reflacting on the body. Had seen a really amazing shot in the movie REVOLVER by genius guy ritchie where the car is moving in slow mo top shot and the lights r reflacted on the surface and moving almost like a belly dancer would move..really really awesome shot..I want to see how its done for this film will be a sort of challenge for the director i guess.

For GQ Magazine

This piece was done for GQ Mag. Its a man's fashion magazine. this was for the Style Shrink section where readers style releted questions are answered by the stylist. this perticular question was about what kind of jacket might go with a perticular kind of trousers for evening wear.

few rough concets were submited and then the final illustration was done. Enjoyed this assignment as i realised this is a window to do some really different work from the comic/concept stuff i am usually working on. looking forward to work on more of these as it will give me space to expriment with my work.

samsung mobile storyboard

Recently did board for samsung mobile phone ad for 30 seconds of fame. Director Uzer Khan. i tried out using actual backgrounds from location reiki and refs provided by the director. It helped in finishing the assignment fast with more accuracy. I am beginning to love working like this for boards as it gives a very clean final frames. earlier i did boards on paper and in certain small areas i had to compromise as drawing details were not possible. I am treating these storyboard assignments as a platform to learn and discover new working methods. It also provides a window to do something different from my graphic novel work. i am enjoying this atleast for now

Storyboard for sunfeast pasta

This was the first time i tried doing the entire storyboard digitally. The deadline was short and it had plenty of frames and corrections as per the clients demands. This kind of assignment can be done in 3 working days that is something i learnt on this job. Was fun and a good learning experience.

The 19th Step storyboard

This project is just too cool for more thn 10 reasons. lets see few of those.
a) Its a film project with a samurai in India (for me this is the coolest reason. In india we dont get to see samurai's in our films last time any one saw a samurai in hindi film that was PRAN playing a SAMURAI. lo kar lo baat).
b) Its got TADANOBU ASANO (Mongol,Itchi the killer,Zatoichi) playing the lead (I so love toshiro mifune and thought any director to have an actor like him is a gift and then i saw tadanobu asano he is just sooo unpredictable and excellent. one should check out the roles he has played...watch him play the bad guy in zatoichi, Ichi the killer...then go and see Mongol. I am a fan of him.)
c) Its a film directred by BHARATBALA. Working with him is really good as he told me only one thing "surprize me". He was very sure of what he wanted and why he wanted it. More fun as he gives you your freedom to perform.
d) music will be done by A.R.Rehman.
e) Film has Kamal Hassan too.
F) Asin as well.
the list can just go on and on and on. You watch the film when it releases.

So this perticular sequence was a training session. so they are not fighting with actual weapons but wooden ones. There were certain bar i was asked to follow. i have not incorporated all the frames from this board. Though it feels like an action sequence its not so...That you shall notice when you watch the film...Again this storyboard was done with a purpose of figuring out elements and props and ideas that can enhance the whole sequence...so you will notice there is no continuty in the props as each frame suggests a different prop.
I enjoyed working on this i wish i had more sequences to work on.

The collaborative effort

Ratnakar matkari is an exrtreamly popular marathi writer. He has written many kinds of works from horror, slice of life, human behaviour, films, plays etc.He has penned down many short stories which have been adoped in radio shows and later for television.
Some time back Ashish had this idea to adopt his short stories into graphic novel medium. He has been a die hard fan of ratnakar matkari's work. Yogesh our writer heard it and he promptly agreed to work on the script as he himslef is a huge fan of ratnakar matkari. Both of them took lot of effort in taking this project ahead. Communicating with Mr.Matkari, getting his approval for this project, Editing, re editing, all of it to bring the selected 6 stories to final comic book script level. lot lot lot of work to get this project even to this pitch level.

I personally liked setups against which the stories take place. these are uniquely indian. As i got to know about the stories more from ashish and yogesh i really started loving the characters in each story. The old lady, the foodie, the kids, a small villege in rural maharastra, the houses these were some elements which i feel give a very very unique visual flavor to the whole story and it was all there written years back...so all we had to do was follow the guidlines laid in the story and try to reinvent it for today's audiance.

We have chosen 6 stories for this anthology. Total page count comes up to 180 pages. out of this 2 stories will be done by me "The Feast" and "Good boys come home before dark" totalling upto 50 pages for me. I am sure this project is going to be a lot of fun atleast for all of us working on it. Lets hope we get to get this book out fasssssssssssssttttttttt so that all you people can also enjoy it.

Boom comics CAPED covers

These were 4 covers i did for Boom Comics for their title called CAPED. This superhero story is little bent. Funny in places yet brutal..Ian Brill was editor on this one...Was a good experience working on these as for the first time i worked on the characters designed by another artist.

Mumbai macguffin

These were the first two images i had created for this project.....mainly i wanted to freeze on the look and feel for the whole project...CC's cab parked in a no parking zone became part of the story later on as he always parks his cab in a no parking zone in the story...fukku looks very healthy in this one but for the book i made him lean a bit more to his left.


These were the very first set of characters designed after the first draft of the story...sher khan and tithi dixhit couldn't make it to the final story.. instead 4 talibans and a gang of russian assians were added to the story



This one shows various stages of development for IKE's character...Since he was the lead character he needed to look right...from the start i wanted him to look like just another tourist in mumbai...so in the end everyone chose the orange kurta and cotton pajama look.
